AGM 11:00am SUNDAY 20 NOVEMBER 2011

Presidents Report for AGM November   2011

Life Members, Members,

Where has 2010/2011 gone to?  As we all get older, time becomes something that we don’t have enough of, and I am sure many of you are of the same opinion.

This is a preliminary note from me, on behalf of your Board, which will give you a brief of the operations of your Club over the last financial year. The end of August has seen the close of another financial year under the governance of the current board. For the last 2 years we have operated in a very competitive and tight financial market. Our revenues have fallen in many areas bar, gaming section, along with the restaurant running at just under break even. This has been a sign of the times and we are not the only Club suffering from the economic down turn. In actual fact we are one of the few that can say we returned a reasonable profit on investment.

Specifics that need to be mentioned are the completion of the outstanding debenture payments over the last year. We have also paid off the mortgage that applied to the upstairs function room.  Whilst you may not have seen too many tangible changes at the Club apart from upgraded Televisions, Gaming Machines, the intangible of loans and some of our mortgages have disappeared. This will be great news to you the Members. We continue to eat away at the mortgages of the  Commercial Building and the Smokers areas. Implementation of weekly mortgage payments has seen our interest costs reduce. Overdraft facility’s remain intact which is some 40k but this is available for a rainy day should we elect to use it.

For the past year we have maintained bar prices for close to 12 months which has been a benefit for you the members but a minor strain on the Profit & Loss Accounts. Either way, what ever benefit is derived it will go back to the membership added values in one way or another.

Our entertainment program continues within the Club be it Bands, Golf, Bowls, Snooker, Darts, Table Tennis, Karaoke, Cash Draws, World Cup Rugby, Quiz Nights, Poker Nights,  Happy Hours, Presidents Shouts which to my mind is a further added value of being a member.

Our Restaurant under the leadership of Chef Kim and his able staff continues to serve Members and Guests with homely meals at reasonable prices. You may not be aware of the policy that your Board implemented when we took over the running of the Restaurant with Staff employed by the Club. That the Restaurant would be run at Break Even so that Members received value for money and added value. I ask you to continue to support Kim and his team in 2012

Finally without you the Members these achievements would not be possible without your continued support for which we thank you. To our out going Board Members thanks and well done and to those seeking election at the AGM good luck.

It is my intention to stand for the position of President in the up and coming elections and I look forward to your attendance at the Annual General Meeting on, Sunday 20th November at 11.00am 1 Norman Lane, Johnsonville.

Bob Tait

President

Christchurch City Mission

16 August 2011

Dear Members,

Reference: Canterbury Earthquake Fund Raiser Donation $20,000.00

After several months of communication with various organisations in the Canterbury District we have at last found a suitable recipient of the funds raised by the Community, Johnsonville Club Inc, Johnsonville Rugby Club and you the Members.Your board has agreed unanimously upon the selection of the Christchurch City Mission as the preferred organisation to receive these funds.

The funds will help the Mission to support those families and persons particularly affected by the earthquake and the funds are to be directed towards families in need.Over the last week with the recent polar blast throughout the nation and in particular Canterbury this donation will be a welcome resource for the City Mission.

We have advised the Christchurch City Mission that the funds will be forthcoming this week, with the funds lodged immediately in an appropriate bank account held by the City Missions, and acknowledged appropriately.

In closing I want to once again thank all of the volunteers led by Trina Snow, Events Organiser, and her team at the Club, Golf, Red Tie Event and the Rugby 7.s for the outstanding result.

Your Club and Community are so very proud of this achievement.

Regards,

Bob Tait

President

On behalf of the Board.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day a huge success

Club mums had a special day in our restaurant on Sunday 8 May. Chef Kim prepared an amazing three course buffet for $20.00 and mums were treated to a glass of bubbly. Entertainment provided by the Hob Nail Boots Duo was enjoyed by all. Thanks to the club members who supported this event, over 80 meals were served that day!

Red Tie Ball Photos

The Red Tie Ball evening was a great success with around 160 guests in attendance.

Katrina Shanks opened the evening with a short speech, and Dave provided a fun and interesting start to the Auction with his w"orld famous at the Johnsonville Club", emergency toilet demonstration.

Wally Smith held a brilliant auction in true Wally style while The Emerald Brothers kept the guests on their feet for the rest of the evening.

The committee estimate that around $6000.00 was raised from the evening but will confirm this in due course.
